Bread is one of the oldest forms of food known to mankind and is the most common baked item in today’s world. Bread’s history goes back to 30,000 years. It is an important accompaniment for most food preparations across the world.
Made out of flour dough, bread has many varieties that depend on the additional ingredients that are used while baking it.
There are 4 popular types of breads which are most commonly available in the market.
1. Whole Wheat White Bread: These are made with a type of wheat called albino wheat.
2. Multigrain Bread: These breads are made from a mixture of wholemeal, white or rye flour. Sometimes it may contain wheat germ, honey, gluten, non-fat milk solids, cracked and whole grains of wheat and other cereals such as rye, oats, corn, barley, rice millet and triticale.
3. Rye Bread: This bread was originally developed in Europe and is made in various shapes and styles. This bread is made from rye or a mix of rye and wheat flour.
4. Fruit Bread: Popular fruits such as raisins, currants, dates, orange peel, and dried apricots are used to make this type of bread. Sometimes cinnamon, nutmeg, egg wash and sugar wash are added to the flour to boost the flavor.
Bread has become a staple food for Indians as well and is an integral part of the breakfast menu in most households.
